Common Problems. . . . . . . . . . . .

Problem:
Printer won't pick up glossy paper.

Solution:
Check to ensure the paper meets your printer's paper specifications. Manually feed the paper into the printer, one sheet at a time, by putting a single sheet into the manual feed tray. After sending the job, push the paper gently into the printer. Most printers over time will have issues feeding glossy paper because the paper is "slicker" than office paper. If you continue to have problems, the printers pick-up rollers will need to be replaced with new.

Problem:
Paper enters the printer mis-aligned.

Solution:
Move the tray's guides to their widest setting. Check the paper weight against your printer's user-manual specifications to ensure it isn't too light or too heavy. Place a squared-up stack of only one type of paper, print side down, against the right-side guide. The stack should be just short of full. Push the guides together until they just touch the edges of the paper stack. Before printing, make sure the print settings match the type, size and orientation of the paper you're using.

Problem:
I can smear the toner on the page with my fingures.

Solution:
A laser printer uses a "fuser assembly" that uses both heat and pressure to fuse the toner into the paper. When this part wears out, the toner will not stick to the paper like it should and will need to be replaced.

Problem:
I have a color laser printer that smears only one of the colors. The other colors print fine except for the one in question.

Solution:
Typically on a color laser printer when only one color is giving you print quality issues, a technician is going to ask that you replaced the color cartridge that is causing the print defect and print at least 20 pages. This will usually take care of the problem. If not, you will need to contact dispatch for repair at 707-206-9600 x 3014 or email us a service request form here
